The start of a new year is a great time to set goals that will help you grow as a person, as well as within your career. Good communication skills are essential for you and your team to succeed. Here are three simple ways to step it up at the office:

  1. Share Your Ideas. Start by making your opinions known. How often do you share your thoughts at work? Make a daily habit of starting or ending the day with a few minutes of reflection. If you have thoughts about an upcoming project, schedule time on your calendar to share with others at the company. Opening up communication with your coworkers can be intimidating, but will ultimately involve you in the decision making.

  2. Start a Dialogue. In order to have open communication with your team, they need to have their opinions heard as well. End each meeting with direct reports by asking if they have ideas or questions. Make it a conversation. Asking for input will get people to be more open to your ideas. It will also help build your relationships with your team.

  3. Check in. Now that so many of us are working remote, it can be tough to balance everything. Take time to check in with your team. Start Zoom meetings with a one word check in from every team member and schedule time to really listen at your one-on-one meetings. Prioritize communication with your team.

Communication is key, regardless of the position you hold. By setting small goals you’ll build your communication skills and create opportunities for you! If you need help developing a communication strategy with your team, I can help - check out my 30 day online presence accelerator.
